A good turn out for a Tuesday today, with seven at the fountain on a warm and breezy morning. The seven were Jack, Ronnie, Kris, Mia, Andy, Lorraine and myself (Adrian), and at Bassingbourn we were joined by Alan – I started late, coming from Hitchin on my new bike and took some time to find the group – so we were eight at lunch, after a wind-assisted ride out via Ashwell.
A new venue for us, the menu was limited as the kitchen was closed due to a lack of staff, but actually what was available was very good, so it turned out alright.
On leaving the golf club (Alan and Andy had already left for LGC), I was very nearly taken out by a motorist turning left into one of the garden centres up the road. A close call.
Anyway, we put a loop on out to Wimpole to check on access to the café there; all is as before, though The Stables is not currently functioning.
The ride back became increasingly hard as we turned into the wind more, and myself, Mia, Jack and Kris decided to stop for a cuppa at Rhubarb and Mustard, with Lorraine and Ronnie needing to get back. Suitably refreshed, we went our separate ways.
A good ride, in spite of the battle with the wind, and the incident in Melbourn!
