Our ride today was to the the Woodview Farmshop and Café in Gamlingay. Nine riders met at the Broadway fountain, Kevin, Jack, Alan, Geoff H, Martin, Adrian, Nige, myself and Mia who took the lead. On our outward journey we cycled via Ashwell and Eyeworth. John was waiting for us at our lunch venue, he had ridden over on his lovely new shiny bike. The usual good food and service was had as always. We all rode back together via Edworth and Henlow. This was the usual nice circuit with one exception:
Geoff came off his bike on Northfield Road, between the River Rhee and a farmhouse, which is between Ashwell and Eyeworth. There had been some patch pot hole repairs carried out very recently and the workmen had left a rather large piece of tarmac which had set in the road causing a large bump and was no doubt now more dangerous to a cyclist than the original pot holes themselves. Geoff, unfortunately didn’t see the offending piece of road and was catapulted off of his bike. Fortunately, neither Geoff or his bike suffered and serious injury. After a few minutes Geoff was able to complete the ride to lunch and indeed back home again. I expect he will be quite bruised, grazed and stiff in the morning. Stuart Collins.
