It was during a friendly discussion at the Forty Plus Northeast Section 2018 Christmas lunch that the subject of cycle touring came up and particularly Lands End to John O’Groats, and most admitted that they hadn’t been on this particular challenge. I started to do some research into the cost of the trip and loosely mentioned what I was up to when riding with two other Essex Sections. It soon became clear that I wasn’t the only person interested in doing the trip and so I got down to some serious research. We were recommended to our Tour Operator, Great-Bear Cycle Tours, by a Forty Plus member. By December 2019 we were all set for doing the trip on 1st June 2020. By mid-February everyone was concerned about our ability to start this trip and emails were flying back and forth. By the time of the first lockdown it was evident that we would have to postpone our trip for 12 months.
On the1st June we arrived at the Tyacks Hotel in Cambourne. After our evening meal most of us got an early night.
